      Hi,

I’m still using Schedules & Scoreboards on my site, but I think it’s time to move to League Manager soon. Problem is, I have the games for several teams for the last 15 years saved in Schedules & Scoreboards. How can I best migrate the data, including venues and teams?

      Many thanks,
      Anders

        Anders,
Guten Tag! Wie geht es ihnen? I’m glad to hear the Mallards are still kicking (or quacking or whatever Mallards do, hitting maybe? LOL)!

There are a couple of options. There are several options, but all require some heavy lifting.

        1. Use the built-in WordPress import-export feature (under Tools in the admin menu). This exports XML files which will have to be massaged to change the exported SS post types to the imported LM post types. This isn’t where I would start, but if you love XML it might work well.
        2. There are a number of plugins that will export data to CSV files, for example https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-all-export/. From there you can massage the CSV files in Excel into whatever is needed to import.
        3. Use the MSTW import-export features. There’s a MSTW Exporter plugin that will produce CSV files for various S&S data types (custom post types). There are some import options on the LM admin menu.

I choose CSV (comma separated value) format for the data (mostly) because it’s man readable, and it’s easy to massage in MS Excel, assuming one is comfortable with Excel and it’s extensive data management features.

As for the migration, I’d start with the venues/locations, which actually might migrate nicely with option 1, then move through leagues, teams, etc. I’d same the schedules/games for last.

So what are the formats for the various CSV files. RTFM. The man pages for CSV Import in both S&S and LM are a good place to start. I know S&S comes with a directory of sample CSV files and the LM man page for CSV Import provides links to download a collection of samples, there’s even some info about SS vs LM formats.

I hope that’s enough to get you started. Sounds like a fun project. Let me know how it’s going.

BTW, Ich plane nächsten Sommer zum ersten Mal Deutschland zu besuchen. Vielleicht spielen the Mallards!!

          Howdy Mark,

thanks a lot for the quick answer! This is something I plan to tackle once the season is over here in Bavaria (October 22 is our last scheduled game). It doesn’t look too complex, I can find my way around both xml and csv.

Wenn Du auch Bayern besuchst, melde dich bei mir – vielleicht finde ich ein paar interessante Spiele und Sehenswürdigkeiten für dich!

Great, let’s see how it goes.

Ich denke, Regensburg wird Erding am nächsten sein. At the end of a Danube River Cruise.
