I am having issues with creating a new league for the finals of a water polo tournament between two areas, the Northern Region and the Southern Region of South West England.
Although giving both the leagues completely different names, ie the Northern Area has the league name of 2024 U15s League and the finals between the two regions has been named finals-competition-15s-2024 and both are in the 2024 season, it keeps picking up the games from the Northern area and dropping these results into the Finals https://bwwpl.com/2023-league-tables.
Can you help please?
January 19, 2025 at 11:53 am #8736Hi Mike,
I’ll try to help you. Let’s start with a couple of questions:
1. By “it’s picking up and dropping those results” do you mean that the league standings tables with auto-fill standings activated is using games from the wrong league(s) in the standings calculation? Or just the standings tables (fixtures)?
2. This is only happening for the Northern league, but not the Southern?
3. What’s the exact shortcode(s) you are using?
4. What are the slugs (or permalinks) for each of the three leagues?
5. What makes you think that games from the wrong league are being used in the finals calculation? Try displaying the schedule table (fixtures) for the finals and see if everything looks right. Then look at the schedule for the northern league, what games (if any) appear in both schedules? Notice any similarities between those games?Let me know.
-MarkJanuary 20, 2025 at 8:59 am #8737Hi Mark, many thanks for picking this up. Firstly the league standings table with auto-fill standings is using games from the wrong league. I have attached the coding for the two leagues. A different league runs the southern league, and they just let me know the winner and runner-up of their league. This then forms the final for the area, with the runners-up of the northern league playing out against the southern league.
For the Northern League, I’m using the code [mstw_league_standings league=2024-u15s-league Season=2024] and the slug name is 2024-u15s-league.
For the finals, I’m using [mstw_league_standings league=finals-competition-15s-2024 Season=2024], and the slug name for the league is finals-competition-15s-2024.
The winners and runners-up for the finals don’t play each other in the finals, as they already have that result, but that is the table that appears in the table for the finals, if that makes sense.
Here is the page on the website (https://bwwpl.com/2024-league-tables). The Finals table is the last one on that page with the teams, and as you will see it is picking up the results from the Northern League, not from the finals competition, as they have not played each other in the finals.
Kind regards
Mike Coles
January 20, 2025 at 3:51 pm #8738Okay, I can see the STANDINGS tables, and the shortcodes and arguments look ok on the surface. But I can’t tell what games are what from that. I would guess that some games are assigned to BOTH leagues –
2024-u15s-league
andfinals-competition-15s-2024
OR that the leagues are somehow getting linked via division and conference game settings. (It can get pretty complicated when you want to show the NFL, NFC, NFC West, North, South, East, etc.) I’d bet that it’s the former case.SO what I would suggest is create SCHEDULE tables for each league, put them side-by-side and see what’s what. I believe you are going to find some games in both leagues.
I’m pretty confident auto-fill standings works – it’s been tested a lot. Worst case, if there aren’t many teams, you could just turn off auto-fill standings for the finals and just enter the finals records manually.
Let me know.
