Hey there,

Is it possible to do a CSV import of schools?

P.S. I love this plugin. It’s coming together perfectly for what I’m developing it for. I am working with a local media outlet that has 6 different radio stations and they broadcast 4 high school football games a week. I’m basically building this as a portal for the broadcasters to use for now and hopefully to make it public later down the road.

Schools are a WordPress Custom Post Type (mstw_lm_school). So they can be imported (and exported) using the Import and Export functions in the WordPress Admin Dashboard under Tools. That uses an XML format, which is probably not what you are after. There are elements in the MSTW framework, like games/schedules and team rosters, which can be imported from CSV formatted files. Unfortunately, I have not had time to build that capability for schools. It’s a good idea. I just haven’t had the time.

Thanks Mark! And I completely understand. I just ended up building a CSV file and using phpMyAdmin to import it. Though I probably could also use some Ruby magic to do the CSV to XML conversion for the direct WordPress import.

Definitely loving the plugin and will share our results of using it very soon. May even be able to use it as a prototype to share with our state’s high school association. Stay tuned! 🙂

Hi Kevin,

I am more of a novice than you in WordPress and MSTW. But I am trying to do almost the exact same thing you are doing.

We cover over 100 high schools and colleges in South Texas and would like to get score and standings out quickly and accurately.

I have just finished manually entering all of the schools one by one.

Can you share your csv format for entering teams. The sample on the website does not use a school field. I figure that would help. I don’t want to mess up the syntax or have to undo a lot of data if there is a better way.
